Native to Southeast Asia, black and red broadbills like this one at @penangbirdpark have distinctive, turquoise and yellow beaks. They can be found in lowland forests near rivers and springs, forging for small invertebrates and fruits. These birds are quite inconspicuous, making very little noise and often sitting still for long periods of time. When it comes time to breed, both sexes will take part in building their nest, which looks like a messy ball that hangs from the tip of a tree branch. After the chicks are born, both parents take turns feeding.
For 30 years, @penangbirdpark has done critical work with endangered species through care and breeding. They are dedicated to educating the public about the importance of conservation.
