If you ever find yourself in China or Southeast Asia, you may be lucky enough to spot a lesser short-nosed fruit bat foraging shortly after sunset. Fruit bats do not echolocate, but instead use their large eyes and excellent sense of smell to find mangoes, figs and nectar to feed on. These bats are important pollinators and seed dispersers, helping to maintain a rich ecosystem for all creatures they share it with. When the sun rises, these bats will return to roost under the shade of trees, wrapping themselves in their cloak-like wings.
This adorable bat was photographed at @lubeebatconservancy, a non-profit doing essential work to save bats and their habitats.
