Sometimes I wonder, where to go when photographing a story for @ナショナルジオグラフィック. It was such the night a few years back, early evening in Komering, trying to find the story narrative. So I wandered, coming upon a beautiful moment in Mangundjaya village, when the waining light turns fountain pen blue, the streets in iridescent inkiness, the theater of life coming awake through a veil of smoke between a narrow road in South Sumatra, Indonesia. I was working on the Pirates of the Malacca Straits story, where everything wasn’t always what it seemed.
