Farmer driving a tractor passes Damiana Kavanha and her son, Kinumi Yuakadu, plowing the field across the highway that once was their ancestral land. Displaced from their land, Damiana and Kinumi have lived for two years along the side of this busy highway in the Mato Grosso do Sul region in Brazil. The family was forced to leave their ancestral land due to land disputes which often plague indigenous people and farmers in the Amazon region of Brazil. They refuse to leave this public land located right along the road, to stay close, fighting against the farmer through the legal system. Damiana's three sons, husband, sister and grand children are buried in the remaining forested area behind her, unable to visit due to threats. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ From my latest story for @natgeo, Us vs Them, Things That Divide Us, in the March 2018 single topic issue on Race.
