When #silk was #gold: This magnificent 1,000-year old shirt, in a rich honey-gold silk adorned with the #Persian #royal motif of smartly-dressed #ducks sporting billowing #scarfs and #pearl necklaces, represents the height of power dressing in the 7th century. It provides a rare glimpse into the important #Sogdian civilisation – set within the mountainous plains comprising modern-day #Uzbekistan and #Tajikistan – and the imprint that it left for many subsequent centuries. One of very few examples in this exceptional state of preservation, this will go on view to the public in #London from 20 April ahead of our Arts of the Islamic World auction.
