These two works on paper by Jean-Michel Basquiat are highlights from our upcoming Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Auction in London.

The first, ‘Untitled’, finds the artist merging image and word, a style dating back to his 1970s graffiti days as the street artist SAMO. ‘I cross out words so you will see them more; the fact that they are obscured makes you want to read them,’ Basquiat once said.

The second is a vivid and emotionally charged depiction of Vincent van Gogh. Basquiat has captured the Dutch artist's famous red hair in a mane of flaming colours.
