I wasn’t sure what I would find photographically when I arrived one hour before sunset. Most shots I’ve seen of the bend these days are blended HDR exposures of the canyon. Not being a fan of HDR I was hoping to avoid that technique. Turns out that if you photograph just before sunset, the light bounces off the cliff below your feet and fills in the adjacent rock wall. An added bonus to this approach is that the clouds are reflected in the river, adding another element to the shot. // Even once you see it in person, you may still doubt it’s real.
