#SpeakingInDance | “I was scared by the whole thing,” said Zachary Downer, who plays Mr. Mistoffelees in @キャッツ, the @andrewlloydwebber production that closes on December 30 at the Neil Simon Theater. “Cats” was his first leading role, his first musical and his Broadway debut. “I’m more of an ensemble dancer,” the 19-year-old said. “But it’s taught me so much, and that stage fright has gone away.” As Mr. Mistoffelees, he is identified by 3 words: competitive, neat and electric, which is evident in this solo that showcases his turning skills. “When I first started, it was very nerve-racking,” Zachary said. “I’m on a rake” — a sloped stage — “How do I get my balance and get my core on? There are better days than others.” He’s not sure about his next step, but he knows one thing about his hard-won feline prowess: “I’m still trying to break out of it when I’m in auditions,” he told the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ writer @giadk. “They’re like, ‘Improv!’ and I give a paw.
