The Arctic Refuge is one of the most pristine and vast wilderness areas left in North America. From the Arctic Ocean a prairie-like tundra landscape leads up to the Brooks Range. Every year the Porcupine caribou migrate to this specific spot to calf. 200 000 caribou flood the landscape. This magical wilderness is under threat as the Trump administration wants to allow oil development in the very coastal plane of the refuge, which plays such a vital role for caribou, muskox, wolves and a myriad of migratory birds. Opening up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for oil drilling was hidden in the GOP tax bill that was just approved by the senate. We need to speak up to protect these last wilderness gems for the next generation.
