In 1908, he hired Hide Hamazaki, who had been a classmate of Kanomata’s at the Tokyo Imperial University, to serve as the company’s first technician, and founded the Okura Sake Brewing Research Institute (currently known as the Gekkeikan General Research Institute) in 1909.
