Some 50 of the huge boards, 1.8 m tall, 30 cm wide, and 3 cm thick, are raised on display, with the names of the actors written carefully in a calligraphy style called “kantei”. Kantei style is noted for its bold, inward-curving strokes that are free of gaps. This is an auspicious way of wishing that the theater be packed, with all seats filled by audience members.
