Photograph by George Steinmetz @geosteinmetz Delicate needles of stone emerge from the chalky bedrock of Egypt's White Desert. The chalk has been sculpted by Harmattan winds from the north, which carve away the softest parts of the rock first. The needles appeared to be worm tubes from when it was a soft white mud at the bottom of an inland sea.
