Last week more than 600 women, children and men paddled large handmade rafts across the Naf River from Myanmar, arriving that late overcast afternoon to Bangladesh. Years ago I was in this part of southern Bangladesh working on a similar story related to ethnic Rohingyan’s, for decades an oppressed minority, today being forced from their homes in Arakan State, fleeing safety to a neighbor. Since August 2017 more than 600,000 Rohingyan’s have arrived in Bangladesh, stateless, homeless, living in sprawling refugee camps south of Cox’s Bazar.
