A little bit of midday reflection! I have noticed that a lot of us creatives/bloggers/instagrammers/entrepreneurs/enablers (a new word I learnt from @me_and_orla to substitute “influencers”, sort of), have expressed fatigue and frustration in keeping up with social media, specially instagram. It’s such a high maintenance task, we all know it, and it can be very frustrating we you don’t get the result you want. Specially if by “result” you intend big numbers. Add to this the huge amount of BS that every day (day? Every moment!) is mercilessly poured into our feeds, that actually get the big numbers you’re after for. Stuff that make you involuntarily ask “dude wtf! Seriously?!”. There’s little sense, little common sense (which I believe is THE big missing element of our times), often there’s even little good taste. And the devastating part is that, although sometimes (some “few” times) we might not notice, most of it ISN’T EVEN REAL. So, one can wonder, what’s in it all? Is it worth it? This picture is the answer. This was a REAL table of aperitivo, with REAL AUTHENTIC food, not really styled, but beautifully presented, and there were REAL interesting, people around it, drinking and chatting about the creative paths they have taken in their lives, and what they aspire to achieve in it. You could define this scene highly “instagrammable” (because apparently now this is an actual adjective!), but it definitely couldn’t get more real. The irony is that, these people happened to be around this table precisely because of instagram/social media. It was #ThePugliaEncounter workshop. So yes, sometimes we find honest and genuine beauty here, that is just the reflection of an offline reality with roots deep in the real life. Yes, we should learn our stuff online and know how to use these tools, but we can’t afford to not get our shit done elsewhere. It’s a bizarre moment we live in. One can think of Charlie Choplin’s Modern Times; just substitute the gears with the internet. It’s easy to lose oneself in it. And I think the antidote might be stepping back, bring it all to life —to the extent you can— and live it. Just some thoughts! Btw, ran out of space for text!
