This iconic photo by Man Ray was first published in French Vogue in May 1926, with the caption ‘Mother-of-pearl face and ebony mask’. The better known title, ‘Noire et Blanche’, emerged a couple of years. Man Ray, however, referred to it as ‘Kiki with African Mask’.
