After returning to Germany from Moscow after World War I, Kandinsky started teaching at the Bauhaus school in Weimar in June 1922. In these early years, his art gradually moved away from the free-flowing lines and shapes towards a geometric form of abstraction.

This shift to strict geometric forms reflected the influence of Russian Constructivism, which Kandinsky was exposed to during the war years spent in Moscow.
