Elisabeth-Louise Vigée Le Brun’s self-portrait, a sale standout from our Old Masters auction in New York, will be on view at our Rockefeller Center galleries from 27–30 October. Entry is free and open to all.

In 1789, Vigée Le Brun fled France during the French Revolution, fearing her position as a court painter to Marie Antoinette would put her life at risk. She passed through Italy over the next 3 years, before residing with Count and Countess Bystry in Vienna. This self-portrait was a gift to the couple for their hospitality.
