Photograph by @andyparkinsonphoto // Bengal tiger cub stalking – Yes, this extraordinary moment that I shared with a 9 month old sub-adult tiger was every bit as exciting as it looks. To have had the privilege, even for one precious moment, to have held the interest and the gaze of this beautiful youngster was a thrill beyond words and the time before and after this moment was every bit as jaw-dropping. We were completely alone in a quiet corner of Bandhavgarh when this youngster, and his two siblings, came stalking out of the undergrowth. Never for one moment did I feel threatened, or intimidated but rather simply in awe as he held his gaze and crept slowly toward our window-less, door-less and windscreen-less vehicle. Seeing and experiencing tigers in the wild had always been a lifelong dream for me and as a kid, in love with nature, growing up in the heart of rural Mid Wales I would never have imagined the experiences that I’ve been privileged to enjoy in adulthood. It was actually the swishing tail of a mahout’s elephant that had first invited the curiosity of these cubs and for 40 minutes we were treated to the privilege of their company, clambering on nearby trees, scratching their claws and then enjoying the privilege of moments such as these.
