On 31 October, our Old Masters auction at Christie’s New York presents paintings by some of the greatest European artists from the late 15th to the early 19th centuries. The preview will open to the public on 27 October at our Rockefeller Centre galleries.

This oil study by John Constable, one of the star lots of our upcoming auction, was painted in the year the artist fully devoted himself to capturing the sky. Began as a means of improving his landscape paintings, Constable's cloud drawings would become for him both a subject of scientific curiosity and an emotional obsession.
