One of the founders of the Baghdad Modern Art Group (1951–61), Jewad Selim is renowned for his role in shaping Iraq’s modern art movement. In 1951 and 1955, the group published two manifestos, in which they asserted how to achieve a distinctive Iraqi identity through modern art.
