Cecil Beaton is best known for his glittering portraits of the icons of stage and screen, of royalty, artists, and society’s most and influential characters. However here, in these still lifes, we discover a different, quieter side to the photographer. The #photograph is one of around 130 images from Sotheby’s Cecil Beaton’s Studio Archive, that will feature in ‘Love, Cecil’, a new book set for publication on October 17.
Author Lisa Immordino Vreeland offers an evocative portrait of this talented whirlwind, whose creative work captured many facets of the 20th century. Using #photography, #drawings, #letters, and #scrapbooks by #Beaton and his contemporaries, along with excerpts from his sparkling diaries and other writings, ‘Love, Cecil’ brings Beaton’s spirit to life in a way no previous book has.
