Flashback. Beer - and wine festivals are in full swing each fall in Bavaria, Germany and many countries around the globe. Here is an image from my first published story in National Geographic Magazine, shot during the Munich Oktoberfest in 1990 where late at night in the Hofbräu Beer Hall attitudes got way out of control – often with behavior unacceptable today.

Started as a royal Bavarian wedding celebration in 1810, the Munich Oktoberfest is the world’s biggest beer bust, attracting more than seven million revelers annually.
