In Berlin, Germany, a couple sits at a picnic table on the grounds of the erstwhile Tempelhof Airfield, which now serves as a huge public recreational ground, with gardens and picnic areas.

I had missed the perfect pre-sunset rays on the couple’s faces by a few minutes as a large bush started casting a shadow onto them. So I recreated the magical early evening light with a warming gel on my strobe which I directed where the sun had shone just moments before.  This is one of the photographs I will discuss in a presentation at the upcoming PhotoPlus Expo in New York Javits Center on Thursday, October 26 at 4:30pm. In my talk “Minus 2/3 - The (nearly) Invisible Strobe” I will share a wide range of flash  uses, from utilizing them at high-speed sync in broad daylight to enhancing extreme long exposures at night by firing the flashes multiple times.  The photograph is also included in my book “minus 2/3 – The Invisible Flash.
