"Curious and purposeful, wandering and driven – Erwitt’s work in Pittsburgh, so early in his career, represents the very genesis of what we now recognize as his visual signature." - Vaughn Wallace
In 1950, a 22-year-old Elliott Erwitt travelled to Pittsburgh at the invitation of Roy Stryker to document the postwar transformation of the city for the newly formed Pittsburgh Photographic Library. Today on Magnum, we share Erwitt's photographs from the formative four month period he spent in the city. Link in bio.
