The Earl of Wessex was in Derbyshire today for a number of visits. First His Royal Highness opened a new retreat at CHICKS’ (Country Holidays for Inner City Kids) Daleside Retreat. CHICKS has three sites around the UK which provide disadvantaged children, with free, fun, respite breaks. Some of these children are young carers or victims of bullying and abuse. CHICKS wants to provide vital breaks for them to make positive memories during their school holidays. The Earl toured the new facilities and saw activities in the Games Room and the Craft Barn. HRH also decorated a plate to commemorate the 25th anniversary of CHICKS.
The Earl also visits St. Oswald’s Church in Ashbourne, where an exhibition of the Town’s Treasurers reveals the town’s interesting history. The Earl was greeted by local primary school children - seen in the first picture.
