TIME joined Florida Governor Rick Scott on Monday as he assessed damage that was inflicted by Hurricane Irma, which first made landfall as a Category 4 storm. Intense winds and rains from the hurricane caused widespread damage from Miami on the eastern coastline to Marco Island on the western coastline and the Florida Keys to the south. "This is a direct hit on our state," Scott said. "You can rebuild your house. You can, hopefully, buy your possessions again. But you can't rebuild your family or your life.
