“The city breathes skateboarding,” said Bruna Stalliviere, a skateboarder @jfpetersphoto met while he was photographing young people in San Diego in June and July. #SanDiego is credited as one of the birthplaces of skateboarding. It began in the 1950s, inspired in part by the city’s robust surf culture; it seemed like a natural progression for surfers when there were no waves. Today, #skateboarding is deeply rooted as “a logistical form of transportation but also a style accessory,” said @jfpetersphoto. He spent summers in San Diego while growing up and returned there this summer while on assignment for @nytimesfashion.
