Photo by @FransLanting Just 30 miles inland from Rio de Janeiro rise the dramatic granite peaks of Serra dos Órgãos National Park, which protects a unique part of Brazil’s natural heritage—the Atlantic forest. This forest originally stretched along the coast of Brazil and inland as far as Iguaçu Falls, but much of it has been lost to coastal development. Only 5% remains. The plants and animals that thrive in the Atlantic forest are different from those of Amazonia, and many are found nowhere else on earth.
