“I now often start my day hopping onto a motorcycle taxi and heading to the front lines where the tear gas is wafting and the projectiles flying,” the photographer @meridithkohut writes. In May, she captured a water cannon being used against protesters on the Francisco Fajardo highway, the main traffic artery in #Caracas, Venezuela. @meridithkohut has worked as a photojournalist for @ニューヨーク・タイムズ in #Venezuela for 9 years, and for the past 2 she has focused on the plight of #Venezuelans struggling with the worst economic crisis in the country’s history. Nearly every day for more than 3 months now, thousands of demonstrators have taken to the streets to vent fury at President @nicolasmaduro and his leadership. “I have witnessed their growing anger as food and medicine disappear and Mr. Maduro’s authoritarianism intensifies,” @meridithkohut writes. The president has called the protests a violent attempt to overthrow his government. But demonstrators say they’re invoking their right to rebellion against tyranny, guaranteed by the constitution he wants to revise. For the members of what’s known as La Resistencia, taking to the streets is the only option left. Visit the link in our profile to see more.
