Constructed in the 13th century to serve the caravans crossing the Sahara, it illustrates a traditional way of life centered on the nomadic culture of the people of the western Sahara. We ended up in Chinguetti to find some shelter from a sand storm but were enchanted by its historical aura as we wandered its labyrinth like streets, browsed the ancient libraries and drank tea with the welcoming locals. In 2000, UNESCO designated Chinguetti a World Heritage Site. @natgeocreative #africa #travel
