Have you heard of the Jimmys? It’s the Tonys, for teenagers. The Jimmys — more formally known as the National High School Musical Theater Awards — take over #Broadway’s Minskoff Theater for one sparkly Monday night every June, transforming the set of @thelionking into a showcase for 74 of the nation’s most talented theatrical hopefuls. The teenage contestants belt ballads, show off their fan kicks and smile until their faces hurt in an attempt to win college scholarships and cash prizes. And, if they’re really lucky, they just might catch the eye of a powerful Broadway casting director. @vincenttullo took this photo of students practicing for the Jimmy Awards, now in its ninth year.
