??Our Przewalski's horse colt is beginning to lose his baby coat---shedding out first around his eyes and nose. He’s now spending time next to our main herd so he can begin socializing with the mares and eventually be introduced to the group. The last truly wild horse, Przewalski's horses are critically endangered and native to Mongolia. Once thought to be the ancestor to the domestic horse, they are actually distant cousins. Mitochondrial DNA suggests that they diverged from a common ancestor 500,000 years ago. Our scientists are actively involved in Przewalski's horse conservation, including helping reintroduce this magnificent species back into its native habitat. #WeSaveSpecies
