Ray the white-naped crane is one rad dad—he’s helping to foster raise two chicks at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute! Males and females take turn incubating the eggs; after 30 days, the chicks hatch and stay with their parents for 8 months. Parents fiercely defend their eggs and chicks, and they share chick feeding duty. Over the years, Ray and his mate have raised more than a dozen chicks, contributing to the survival of this vulnerable species. Make dad’s day! Give a gift to his favorite animal in his honor: http://s.si.edu/2qWnp7w. (Link in our profile.) #FathersDay ??
