Photo by @FransLanting Low tide at sunrise exposes the cracked domes of stromatolites lining the shores of Shark Bay in Western Australia. These mounds are formed by living communities of primitive bacteria. Three billion years ago their ancestors began to produce the oxygen that altered our Earth’s atmosphere and made it possible for oxygen-breathing animals like ourselves to evolve. The spreading pink clouds of sunrise hint at a change in the air. For more wonders from our living planet, follow me @FransLanting.
