Photo @materas // A coastal brown (grizzly) bear forages for food at low tide, Chichagof Island, Tongass National Forest, Alaska. Chichagof Island has the highest density of bears per square mile in the world. We watched this sub-adult and its sibling forage and play along the shoreline for a half an hour. With a diet that's rich in salmon, coastal brown bears can reach upwards of 1,500 pounds. While this one wasn't nearly that big, it was still best to watch from a kayak offshore!
