With its sparkling limestone peak and its jagged “teeth,” Ai-Petri is among the most spectacular mountains in Crimea. Made of the weathered remains of a huge coral reef formed millions of years ago, when this area was under the sea, the limestone here is exceptionally dense - hence its longevity. The photograph was taken on assignment for @ナショナルジオグラフィック before the Russian-Ukrainian conflict over the Crimean territory.
