Standing tall in front of Richard Prince’s ‘American Place’. Half hard-edged painting, half sculpture, the work is emblematic of the artist’s interest in American culture. Utilizing the hallowed anatomy of a muscle car, specifically the hood of the car – which often launches heroes, anti-heroes and villains into action – Prince encapsulates the energy and power of the vehicle as well as that of the United States. Now on view on the 10th floor of our York Avenue headquarters, #SothebysContemporary is open to the public through 18 May.
