Open today, Sotheby’s Dubai hosts the first ever selling #exhibition of #photography by acclaimed photographer, writer and Oscar-winning #designer Cecil Beaton (1904-1980) to come to the #MiddleEast. Beaton captured from behind his camera lens the great and famous personalities of the 1930s to the 1970s - from eminent artists, to iconic actors to influential philosophers and international #royalty. Until 27 May, our #Dubai galleries bring this glittering generation to the public, stepping behind the public veneer of figures like Marilyn Monroe, one of the greatest #Hollywood legends of all time. Beaton only met Monroe once in 1956; this photo was taken in his suite at the Ambassador Hotel in #NewYork, where he described the star’s presence as a ‘bouquet of a fireworks display’.
