Lazaro Rosario is a student in Tete, #Mozambique. In parts of southern Africa, people with #albinism, like Lazaro, are killed or sold by traffickers. Lazaro blames the government for not doing more to protect people like him. “They have not taken the albinos issue seriously,” the 18-year-old said. “We are losing our brothers and sisters.” The government knows about the problem. They’ve started public information campaigns to quash the superstition that albino body parts bring good luck. The police, too, have become more attentive to the issue Some civil-society groups aim to protect albinos and discourage trafficking. But much more needs to be done. The photographer @danirodriguesphoto traveled to southern Africa in 2015 to chronicle the #albino community and its difficulties. “I took hundreds of photographs and met dozens of albinos and their families,” he writes in #NYTOpinion. “What I found was fear.” Visit the link in our profile to see more images by @danirodriguesphoto. #nytweekender
