Georges Rouault’s interest in the world of the #circus found its greatest outlet in his #art during the 1930s, and the imagery he produced was based on his own childhood memories. Having originally trained as an apprentice in a stained glass workshop, Rouault’s distinctive style owed much to his life-long fascination with this medium, with the bold black lines used to delineate form referencing in particular #medieval glass techniques. ‘Cirque’, a rare complete set of eight #aquatints from the collection of Lord & Lady Attenborough will be offered in our Prints & Multiples sale in #London on 4 April.
