Mute swan with her cygnet – Hi everybody, I could really do with your help with something if you have a moment. This image has been shortlisted for the People’s Choice Award in this years’ Bird Photographer of the Year Award and it would be massively appreciated if you could click on the link in my bio and then when this image loads just hit LIKE. As for the image itself it was taken during my time with the infant cygnets last year as I sought to document the early days and weeks of their lives. This young female cygnet was the last to hatch, a day behind to her two brothers, and she was always the most clingy and the most desperate to climb onto her mothers’ back. I particularly like the image because, as with many of my images it required a significant amount of luck. I was shooting with my 600mm F4 and because of a cluttered and busy backdrop I wanted to minimise the depth of field so I left the aperture at F4. In doing so it I had to get lucky and hope for the female to turn around, on exactly the same plane of focus, as she started tenderly preening her precious baby. Fortunately she did so and I was able to capture this intimate and tender moment. Thanks again for all of your help and support everybody, it is so massively appreciated!
