Miller would have made a name for herself as a model, fashion photographer, and Surrealist artist, but during WWII she became the only female combat photographer in Europe. Working for Vogue, she photographed the liberation of Dachau and Buchenwald, the London Blitz, and the inside of Hitler’s apartment—where she photographed herself in his bathtub. “I think she was sticking two fingers up at Hitler,” her son later said of the image.
