Politicians like to say they can’t be bought. But this weekend in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, anyone can buy a politician — and a president no less. The Hall of Presidents and First Ladies, a 60-year-old wax museum, closed in November, and it’s selling at auction all of its lifelike figures of presidents and their spouses. They aren’t perfect — but neither were the men (and some women) they represent. So now the question is: Who wants whom? One auctioneer predicts there will be a bidding war over Abraham Lincoln, and expects the other presidents will sell for between $1,000 to $5,000. @markmakela photographed a wax depiction of America’s 16th president, sitting stiffly in a chair, while on #nytassignment in Gettysburg.
