A few years back I saw a doctor when I started losing feeling in my hands on long bike rides in cold weather. We talked about my work in the Arctic & shooting in really cold conditions. He asked me if I had ever gotten frostbite or experienced hypothermia. I told him that I didn't even know what those symptoms would feel or look like. . We retraced some experiences & I remembered a time after getting out of the sea in Norway... I was so cold my fingers couldn't move & lips couldn't make legible words... I wasn't even thinking straight. I got straight into a super hot shower & my whole body stung ( bad) .. not just for a couple minutes but for the rest of the day. "That feeling," he said, "can cause nerve damage." Going from a hypothermic or frostbitten state should always be treated with Slow and calculated warming. Never Introduce the body directly to intense heat. I was shocked.. mainly that I was so dumb to not educate myself on the proper way to take care of my body in those conditions. After that experience blood flow to my hands and feet has always been slow.. my fingers freeze way before any part of the rest of my body. I've taken more meds than I can count and every alternative method to try and get blood flowing normally in cold conditions. . In the end nothing has really helped... so i just kinda live with it. When my hands get cold and I can barely feel the camera shutter... it's a good reminder that the best things in life you have to be willing to suffer for. ❤️
