For most shots of the aurora I try to keep the exposure down to 2-6 seconds.. it makes the strips of lights appear sharper and freezes the stars. But for this photo I wanted something more surreal... a 30 second exposure & longer lens gave the sky a milky glow & allowed the stars to streak a little bit.
