Photo by Michael George @migeophoto // Burano is a popular destination near Venice, Italy. Its history as an island full of rainbow houses and handmade lace has been largely commercialized, though there are many residents that are descendants of the original population of fishermen. Legend has it that the houses were painted bright colors so that when the fishermen came home in the fog, they would know whose house was whose. Specific hues have been in families for centuries, and if you want to change the color, you have to send in a request to the government. Of all the shades, this blue was my favorite on the island. The crisp white sheets contrasted nicely with the facade and moments after this image was taken, an old woman walked out to take them down. // #burano #italy #venice #rainbowhouses #italianhistory
