An important painting by the Norwegian artist Harald Sohlberg - known and loved in #Norway but rarely seen at international auction - comes onto the market not much more often than once in a generation. ‘From Værvågen, The Fisherman’s Cottage’ was acquired from Sohlberg by Alfred Larsen, whose sister Tulla had an infamous and tempestuous relationship with Edvard Munch, culminating in a shooting accident in which Munch injured two fingers. Painted with a palette of warm oranges of the sort recognisable to anyone who has witnessed the stunning summer sunsets in Scandinavia, this evocative landscape is on view in our #London galleries ahead of the 19th Century European Paintings sale on 14 December. #Sothebys19thC
