A female red squirrel reaches out for a hazelnut – Allow me to introduce Neil McIntyre whose hand you can see in this image. I’ve known Neil for many years, both personally and professionally and he is one of the true gentlemen of British wildlife photography. Neil has spent a great many years working to conserve the last remaining isolated populations of red squirrels in the UK and he has recently started a crowdfunding project to produce a beautiful coffee table book featuring his unique collection of images, gathered over the last 30 years. To say that he is a squirrel obsessive would be an understatement but this is a book with a real conservation purpose as the plight of this native species has never been so precarious.
