Having used up all of her energy reserves to swim up river and lay eggs this female salmon has reached the end of her life. Salmon are THE keystone species in Canada's Great Bear Rainforest and even after death continue to contribute immensely to the ecosystem. Not only do their decaying bodies nourish scavengers but nutrients from these fish can eventually even be found in trees, helping them grow faster and larger. #Canada #salmon @pacificwild @saveourseasfoundation @ナショナルジオグラフィック @natgeocreative
