Gannet sky pointing – Social media can be a great sounding board for photographers and it always interests me with which images people tend to connect, and which it seems are less popular. This was an image that I’d always overlooked, I guess because it’s a relatively familiar aspect of behaviour and because it’s not photographed in a particularly imaginative way. That being said however when I had previously posted it to another Social Media site the response was so favourable that it encouraged me to look at the image in a different way. Later that year I entered it, entirely on the opinion of others, into the British Wildlife Photography Awards and it ended up getting awarded, though in the Black and White category. For those of you that might be interested in experiencing these stunning birds for yourselves, as well as countless species including the adorable puffin, then I have organised and am leading a one-week photographic tour to the Shetland Islands, the UK’s most northerly isles, from the 8th-15th July 2017.
